It hangs from a copper and crystal 48cm/20" necklace.

Your necklace has copper components. This may include the chain and setting. All copper parts have been given 3 coats of wax and polished to seal the surface and protect them from tarnishing. This also helps to prevent the acids in your skin from reacting with the copper which can in some people turn the skin green.
